Over 10,000 visitors, 1,500 conference participants and more than 200 exhibitors attended the GREENTECH FESTIVAL from 22 to 24 June. This took place for the first time in the Urban Tech Republic.
Things have gone quiet behind the fence of the former Tegel Airport, but things are happening! The Tegel Projekt GmbH team took over responsibility for the area in August last year and is working intensively to prepare the implementation of the new Schumacher Quarter and the Urban Tech Republic.
This year, the GREENTECH FESTIVAL 2022 will take place in Berlin TXL. From 22 to 24 June, environmental activists, politicians, experts and consumers will discuss topics such as energy independence, climate protection measures and decarbonisation.
So far, there are only three pilot projects nationwide that have been pre-certified according to the DGNB usage profile “New Construction Commercial Quarters”. Berlin TXL – The Urban Tech Republic, the after-use project for Tegel Airport, was already the world’s first commercial quarter to be awarded the DGNB’s “Platinum” sustainability certificate.
What are the requirements and interfaces for the digital neighbourhood of the future? Our colleagues were part of the DIN SPEC consortium and helped to develop the newly published “Guidelines for the Implementation of Digital Systems for Neighbourhood Management”.
The KIS’M project will be launched this year on the former airport site: an AI-based system for networked mobility. Autonomously driving shuttles will take over the transportation of passengers.

Now it is official: The Berlin University of Applied Sciences will move into Terminal A of the former airport with 13 different degree programmes. The signing of the corresponding protocols took place on 05 January.

Berlin, March 22, 2023 – Tegel Projekt GmbH will once again be managed by a dual leadership. Frank Wolters, former Managing Director of the Paderborn Economic Development Corporation, will lead the state-owned company together with Gudrun Sack from April 2023.
A virtual walk through the city of the future is now also possible via smartphone. The Berlin TXL app has been adapted to the ongoing planning and is now compatible for iPhones and older iPads for the first time.
As part of SBE22, a workshop on “Municipal Climate Action” was held at the Infocenter Berlin TXL, followed by lunch and guided tours of the former airport site.
