Recycling
Cradle to cradle instead of cradle to grave
Reusable materials found in waste are, like necessity, the mother of invention, particularly considering the ever-increasing scarcity of resources and the rising costs of disposal. That’s why new recycling ideas will be developed and tested in Berlin TXL.
The mantra of REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE is one that is lived every single day in the Urban Tech Republic. The waste concept for Berlin TXL provides for waste collection in the public sphere through the use of innovative trash bins, reuse shelving, and underground collection systems with fill-level indicators. The concept places emphasis on a diverse range of services aimed at business owners and on future-oriented ideas for recycling. A planned competency and recycling center plays a central role in this.
Recycling is the key
In addition to the collection and pressing of waste materials, a competency and recycling center of this kind tests innovative ideas for separated collection of reusable waste and preventing waste by repairing and reusing. And the inclusion of electric commercial vehicles brings opportunities to demonstrate sustainable logistical and operator models (delivery and pick-up services) on a large scale in the daily work routine of a modern megacity. Here in the Urban Tech Republic leading research institutions and waste disposal companies will be working together on innovative solutions. And these are now already emerging. With its expertise in the utilization of raw materials and recycling, the Berliner Stadtreinigung (BSR) [Berlin Waste Management] is a key partner on our path towards a technology park that is sustainable and future-oriented.
