In order for the Berlin University of Applied Sciences (BHT) to be able to move into the former main terminal of TXL in 2027, renovation work on the listed building will begin in July this year. The BHT had already been in talks for the use of the site since 2008. The former vice-president of the BHT, Prof. Dr. Hans Gerber, was instrumental in the signing of the protocol for the handover and takeover of the property. The first Vice-President Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Kesseler thanked him explicitly afterwards. The symbolic handing over of the keys by the former governing mayor Michael Müller to Tegel Projekt GmbH already took place in August last year (we reported).
This allowed the after-use projects of the Urban Tech Republic (UTR) and the Schumacher Quartier to begin. The core of the UTR, with 2,500 students, will be the BHT, which will offer courses such as Urban Plant and Open Space Management, Renewable Energies and Electromobility.
