The Senate Department for Urban Development and Housing is looking for landscape planning design concepts for the Berlin TXL neighbourhood and landscape park as part of a Europe-wide competition. On Thursday, 11 April 2019, the winning designs were awarded prizes: Chaired by landscape architect Gerd Aufmkolk, the jury has now awarded two second prizes and one third prize.
The two second prizes went to the Berlin office GM013 Giencke Mattelig Landschaftsarchitektur and to Weidinger Landschaftsarchitekten, also from Berlin. Both designs envisage the integration of the former runway. The third prize went to Latz+Partner LandschaftsArchitektur Stadtplanung from Kranzberg.
The prize-winners are now to continue working on their designs in a subsequent workshop procedure. The jury will then meet again to decide which of the two designs should be implemented. The neighbourhood park in the Schumacher Quarter is the central public green space for all future residents of the new district.
In the adjoining landscape park to the west, offerings are to be created for people from the existing residential areas north of the airport, the future users of the Urban Tech Republic and the residents of the Tegel North quarter still to be developed around the current government airport. All competition entries will be exhibited in the shopping centre “Der Clou” from 16 to 31 May 2019. You can find all information about the date here.
