Study: What does the future hold for Kurt-Schumacher-Platz?

When Tegel Airport closes, many things will also change at nearby Kurt-Schumacher-Platz. No more noise from low-flying aircraft, building restrictions in the flight path will be lifted and a new urban area will be created in the immediate vicinity with the Urban Tech Republic, the Schumacher Quarter and the Tegeler Stadtheide Landscape Park. Kurt-Schumacher-Platz is becoming an important hub for old and new neighbourhoods. Against the backdrop of these developments, the Reinickendorf district authority has commissioned the “Kurt-Schumacher-Platz Potential Study”. With this study, the district wants to find out what development opportunities will arise for the square and its surroundings after the closure of the airport. The focus is on the design of the public square and traffic areas, but the possibilities for adjacent private properties are also to be identified. But what would the square be without the people who live there? Therefore, all interested parties are invited to share their very personal opinion on the future of Kurt-Schumacher-Platz. What needs to be improved or changed? Which corners are already favourite places and where does something still need to be done? Citizens can use a short survey and an interactive map on meinBerlin until 4 July to pass on information to the planners.

The potential study serves as the basis for the subsequent concrete redesign plans (including an urban planning/spatial competition). MeinBerlin is a service offered by the state of Berlin for citizen participation. Here, citizens can find information about projects of the Berlin administration and can contribute their own ideas and suggestions. Anyone who is interested in shaping the city can participate.
