Under the motto “The future is when houses make a (good) climate and the city becomes edible!”, the Climate Day of Future Places Berlin took place on 08 November 2022 as part of Berlin Science Week. The day was used to present important contributions from research and practice for shaping climate change. The focus was on solutions from science institutions and science-based companies with an impact on the Berlin-Brandenburg region. In addition to lectures and a panel discussion, a mini-expo also invited visitors to find out about various projects. Tegel Projekt GmbH presented the Urban Tech Republic at its stand. The Urban Tech Republic sees itself as an urban living lab: here, the city is being rethought and forward-looking technologies are being applied for the first time – not only on campus, but also next door in the Schumacher Quartier. The meeting of city and nature – what at first seems to be a contradiction is thought together and made possible in Berlin TXL. The lecture programme at POP Kudamm consisted of speeches focusing on the transport turnaround, energy turnaround, climate resilience as well as circular economy and sustainable materials. Pia Laube, Community Development of Tegel Projekt GmbH, gave a presentation on strategies for climate resilience in Berlin TXL.

In the afternoon, the panel discussion started with Samira Jama Aden (Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin), Alyssa Weskamp (Siemensstadt Square), Niclas Thal (Students for Future, TU Berlin), Fabian Schmitz-Grethlein (District Councillor Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf) and Kerem Halbrecht (PlattenBaum UG). They exchanged views on the contribution of places of the future to the topic of “climate change” in the Berlin-Brandenburg region and examined it from different perspectives. Following the panel discussion, there was the opportunity to talk to each other, exchange information about the projects and make contacts at a “networking with guidance” and a get-together.
