At the Berlin Freedom Dinner, 3,000 Berliners celebrated on the former airfield in Tegel on the evening of 7 August. The guests sat at 1,018 specially arranged tables that formed the 800-metre-long lettering “Berlin loves you!” from a bird’s eye view. After some 17 difficult months, which Berliners have mastered so far with discipline, long-suffering and resourcefulness, Berlin set an example of hope and joie de vivre. Via social media, the hashtag #berlinlovesyou went viral and 250 media from 21 countries reported on the unique event and picked up the images of the evening. The Governing Mayor of Berlin, Michael Müller, and the Senator for Economic Affairs, Energy and Industry, Ramona Pop, together with Messe Berlin and visitBerlin, invited guests to this special evening.
